About Me

*Miss Tamarah has found her forever home!*

Hello, friends! My name is Tamarah, and I have an update since I came to CBHR as one of 12 outdoor-dwelling basset hounds whose former owner could no longer care for us. Well, let me clarify: When the caravan came for us dozen, I went on the lam – my former owner said I’m such a good escape artist that he called me a Houndini.

The good people at CBHR came back and retrieved me, and now I am settled into my foster home, where I follow the people around like I think they are going to leave me. I’m a gorgeous girl – just look at me! – but I am very shy and anxious around people. My fosters are making sure I get some pets and massages to familiarize me with the human touch, but I will need a patient, loving family who can help me work through my anxieties. And I’m making progress!

I am working on my socialization, and I’m calm with adults and calm, older children – but I prefer women to men. My foster family believes I probably would be best off in a calm, nurturing environment without any children because of my anxiety, most likely with a woman or a household with a soft-spoken, patient man.

My foster mom used to have to come get me when I went outside to do my business, but now I come when call and am learning commands like a champ! I am excellent in my crate and often just walk right in if the door happens to be open. However, I have discovered that I really love a comfy bed (see photo gallery) and my air-conditioned digs. I guess I’m just not used to life in a comfy house yet, but with the right touch, some training and a lot of patience, I am sure I’ll be a nice addition to the right family.

I enjoy my walkies and do well on a leash, and I love hanging out with the other household dog in the backyard. My fosters think I might do well in a home with another dog to keep me company.

It goes without saying, given my shyness and my history as a flight risk, that I will need a securely fenced yard. Someone who has experience working with traumatized doggies like me would be an excellent fit. But given the progress I’ve made, I am sure I will make the right family a wonderful dog.

If you think I might be a dog you can love, contact CBHR and ask how to go about applying to be an adopter. They will give you all the information you need about me. There are also lots of other bassets on this site – many of us older hounds – who are looking for someone to love forever. Let us show you how much love we have to give! Tamarah signing off!
