About Me

*Roofus crossed the Rainbow Bridge on July 22, 2024. After being rescued from awful conditions, he spent five years as a CBHR foster – most recently a Forever Foster – and lived out his life in the loving care of his dedicated foster family. Fly free, Roofus, and have a happy reunion with Smokey and Duke!*

Greetings! I am Roofus, and my tale begins like that of so many other rescue dogs. My brother Smokey and my dad, Duke, lived for 11 years in a squalid pen with little human interaction or affection. The landlord threatened to shoot us, but a good-hearted person rescued us and contacted  CBHR.

Eleven years is a long time to go without a good human to call a best friend. Even after being rescued, I remained withdrawn and skittish.  I wouldn’t come inside my new foster home for days. Human touch was so foreign to me that it was two weeks before I would let my foster dad pet me. Then I went to a remarkable foster home with Smokey and other dogs. As it turns out it wasn’t so much Smokey I needed, but an environment where I could relearn how to be social.

I became a lot more interactive, playful, and trusting. I am much more comfortable with men. In fact, when my current foster dad comes home like get excited and show him vocally how glad I am to see him. I love to play outside and am very curious.  I also like to play inside and will let my fosters know when I want to join the fun.

Sadly, both my dad Duke and Smokey have crossed the Rainbow bridge. CBHR has designated me a Forever Foster, which guarantees that I will live out my life in the safety and security of a loving home.
