About Me

*Olaf has found his forever home!*

Hallo, everybody! My name’s Olaf, not to be confused with the silly animated snowman from “Frozen.” I’m a real-life hound, about 3 years old, and I came to CBHR along with 11 of my fellow bassets who were living outdoors.

I’m still working to get accustomed to the indoor life and I didn’t have a lot of human interaction in my former place, so I tend to be timid. I don’t like to be approached – it scares me. Foster mom says I need socialization to help me come out of my anxious little shell, and she is helping me do that. Medication has helped a little, but what I really need is time to grow more confident.

As you can see, I’m a cutie-pie, and I’m also pretty smart. I am already housetrained despite having been raised outdoors.

I really want to be outside, as that’s my comfort zone, and I will whine when crated or left alone. When I am indoors, I like to hang close to the people – and I really love being petted and cuddled. I get along with the other dog in the house but don’t play with him much.

My favorite thing in the whole world is my walks. I used to be nervous when you approached me with the leash, but now I realize it means I get to go exploring and to get some tasty treats when I am on my best basset behavior. I loved to sniff, and I am even letting strangers pet me! I’m in my element in the outdoors and walk on a leash like a champ.

Foster Mom says I’m a sweet and gentle boy. She says I am making progress slowly, and she isn’t rushing me. I’m still a young guy, so I think I will one day get to the point where I really can enjoy my cushy new life.

As you can tell, I’m a work in progress, but keep checking back, because CBHR has the best foster people in the world, and they understand how to bring out the best in every basset. If you’re interested in learning more about me, just contact CBHR and ask about Olaf!
