About Me
Hello! I’m Moe, and my foster family says I’m a “delightful” and gentle-natured basset hound mix, a little over 3 years old. I love to walk and am great on a leash – preferably with a harness. I also love to ride in the car and meet new people and animals!
Here’s the thing: I was probably abused in the past, and I’m afraid of lots of things – not to the point of aggression, but my foster dad is sad that I am terrified of squeak toys, loud noises and anytime it looks like you might be raising a hand toward me (even if it’s just for a friendly love). I will wince and roll over, or run when frightened. My bed is my safe place, so it’s important to make sure I have that special spot where I can feel secure (as long as it’s not a crate – more on that to follow).
But I have come a very long way, and with patience, positive reinforcement and lots of love, I should continue to be more trusting. I do have a medical issue – a cervical injury that has caused me lots of pain, but with medication I am feeling a little better. I’m still healing, though, and I will need a family who can make sure I continue to improve.
I love children and adults, and I get along with cats. I’m pretty good in crowds, and I’m housetrained. I’m usually very laid back and mannerly, except I have to admit that I have previously tried to chew my way out of a crate. My foster family no longer tries to crate me, and I am well-behaved when they leave if I’m left alone. (The people have a camera and they saw that when they are gone, I just hang out in my bed or on the sofa. The other dogs are my pals and make me feel more comfortable. And when the people are home, I am a perfect little gentleman.
As long as there are people around, I am content to sit or sleep quietly nearby, and I don’t jump on people or the furniture. I have a special blanket that I sleep with, which makes me just plain irresistible. My foster dad says everyone who meets me loves me (and what’s not to love – just look at me!) I’m sure that with some love and patience, I’ll be a really good boy.
My foster family says I will make an excellent forever hound for a household where I can interact with people and other pets. I am really looking forward to meeting my forever family!
