About Me

*Mavis has been adopted!*

They call me Mavis – you know, like the famous Mavis Staples. That’s because I have soul and a great voice. Let me introduce myself:

I’m a 4-year-old basset girl, and my foster mom says I’m a great dog. I love to go for walks and have never been rude and barked at other people or animals, but I do get really excited when I see other people and pets I’d like to meet. I bark for a spell when I’m left alone and again when Foster Mom gets home because I’m so excited to see her!

Foster Mom says I’m a bit of a grump if awakened from a sound sleep. At first, I growled and snapped, but FM explained to me that such behavior is not ladylike. I’ve settled down but it’s good to keep in mind. I don’t have much exposure to children but she thinks I would do OK as long as they understand that I get a little jumpy if startled.

I came to CBHR after a tearful young family member called them to say she worried that I and two other hounds were being ignored. The family agreed it would be best for us to find families that weren’t too busy to give us the attention we needed.

Now that I am living in style, I love it, and I am adapting well to the rules of my foster home. I used to growl around my food just to warn the other dogs away, but now I realize they aren’t trying to steal my food. We eat side by side without incident.

I love playing with my dachshund foster sibling. We play tug-of-war with our toys and have a great time together. I have a lot of energy and it’s great to have other dogs around I can run and play with.

I’d prefer a home with a doggie door or where I can come and go as I please into a fenced backyard, because I love the outdoors. My foster mom leaves the back door open all day so we dogs can enjoy the yard whenever we want.

I am reliably housetrained and I’m an overall good girl. I’m not crate trained, but I am a polite houseguest and sleep near my crate at night. I sure would enjoy a home with another dog, but I haven’tbeen observed around cats. A confession: I will beg for your food, but I’m no thief. I don’t counter surf.

Anyway, if you’d like to learn more about this vivacious girl, contact CBHR and let them know you want to know all about me, Mavis! I am available for adoption right now!
