About Me

Hello there! I’m Maggie May, and I’m pretty sure Rod Stewart had a gorgeous girl like me in mind when he wrote the classic hit bearing my name. I’m a 6-year-old basset mix and would sure love to my forever family! And I am really hoping for a special family, because I have some bad news. I’ve been diagnosed with a mast cell tumor, which means I will have to work a whole lot of love into a shorter period of time.

But trust me, I have so much love to give.

I am an easygoing hound, and sweet as can be. I don’t care much for toys – I’d rather have lots of loves from my people. On a nice day, there’s nothing I love more than a ride in the car.  Even when I’mtaking a walk, I look longingly at passing cars. My foster mom calls me her “Ride or Die.”

Don’t get me wrong, I adore long walks too. I have excellent leash manners. My foster says I respond well when she corrects me if I get excited and start to pull on the leash, and I don’t go “flat basset” on her. When Foster Mom stops, so do I.

Now, as a scent hound, I can’t resist the smell of tasty food in the kitchen. FM is trying to teach me not to counter surf, but sometimes I just can’t help myself. I’m sure I will learn, though, because I’m eager to please. If you have some cheese, though, you’d better share it with me. I charge a cheese tax.

I love to sleep on my dog bed near my fosters, or in the closet if I want some solitude. I don’t mind my crate – it’s where I eat my meals or just hang out during the day.

I’m housetrained and get along great with other dogs. I haven’t been tested around cats or kiddos, but I’m a big fan of the grown-up humans.

If you think we could be made for each other, contact CBHR and let them know you want to learn more about me, Maggie May. Have a peek at my photo gallery above. And while you’re at it, explore our website for opportunities to adopt, foster, volunteer and donate! We are a 100 percent volunteer organization, so all of the money goes toward the care of our basset hounds.

I’m Maggie May, wishing you unconditional love and slobbery basset kisses!
