About Me

Hello, everybody! My name is Henry, and I’m a single basset hound looking for a forever family to love. I have had quite the journey. When CBHR took me in in late February, they noticed I had a lot of medical needs, including several fractures in my spine, which was compressing the spinal cord. They aren’t sure what happened to me, but it caused me lots of problems and pain. I had trouble walking and had no bladder or bowel control.

The wonderful people at CBHR took me up to the N.C. State University Veterinary School, where I had surgery to decompress my spine. I have made a lot of progress since then, and I am with lovely foster parents who have a background in veterinary medical rehabilitation.

I’m a young guy, about a year and a half old, and I am hoping to have a long and happy life. So many people have already donated money to help pay my considerable medical expenses, and CBHR also has a lot of houndies who have medical needs. I am so grateful for the generous donors who have helped me in my recovery.

We all hope the surgery will help me live a normal life, but I have some ongoing problems with incontinence and will need a special home with people who can give me lots of love and be patient with me. I am ready to start looking for my forever family! I’ll need a home with structure, and I probably would do best in a home with no children.

If you are home most of the time, that would be a plus, because you will be able to let me out more often. I also will need frequent bathing. Please be patient with my potty habits – I was hurt really badly and I’m still getting used to be able to tell when I have go to. I do wear a belly band for when I have accidents.

About me: I’m a sassy boy who loves to play, and I can be a little rough sometimes because I feel like a puppy. I’m very sweet and get along great with other dogs as well as cats. I like to make new canine friends but I can be a little hesitant at first until I get to know them.

I do very well in my crate at night and when my foster parents aren’t home – I don’t even whimper. I do love the sound of my own deep bark, though! My foster parents say I will need supervision – they say I’m like “a kid in a candy shop after the sugar rush hits.” I just have lots of energy and I’m always in the mood to run and play.

I don’t like car rides, but I go to work every day with my foster dad who works in a veterinary rehab facility. I know I’m not perfect, but I have come so far in my journey, and I dearly want a forever family.

If you might be interested in me, let CBHR know. (I mean, just look at this face – I’m adorable!) CBHR can tell you all about me and my needs. Until we meet, have a great day – Henry out!
