About Me
Howdy! My name’s Hal! Some have suggested I’m a bit of a lemon, but I’m trying really hard to make lemonade.
I am a great companion hound – I adore being around people. I’m a work in progress, though, and have been working with a trainer and my foster mom on resource-guarding issues. However, the trainer says I’m 95% great dog and 5% “needs improvement.” But I am making strides, even though I sometimes stumble.
I’ve settled right into my foster home, though, and I am a lovable boy. I still have some anxiety about loud noises and unfamiliar situations. But we are also working on that.
I also love, love, love food and treats and, I’m embarrassed to say, I tend to grab them quickly so no one else can get them. I’m fed separately from the other dogs in the house because I’m so possessive of my chow. I also am an expert counter cruiser, so it’s best to keep food out of my long reach. I really like to play with other dogs, as long as I’m not around another alpha dog.
I’m a good boy when I’m left in the house without being crated, and I haven’t shown any separation anxiety so far. I do love my new pack and love to play! I also like to ride in the car and go for walks!
Foster Mom says I’m a Velcro dog – I do love to find a nice, warm lap to snuggle on. I love the sound of my own houndie voice, and I bark at other dogs and people when I’m nervous.
It is important that I am adopted by a family with no children or at least with teens who are old enough to understand not to tempt me by carrying around food or other items in my presence where I might try to grab it. As my training progresses, check back, because CBHR has a history of helping us hounds become our very best basset selves.
Good news! CBHR now says I’m available for adoption! I can’t wait to meet my forever family! Could it be you? I might be a little rough around the edges, but if you are willing to continue my training and provide steady, calm guidance, I will make a great dog for the right family. I’ll need patience, consistency, and most of all, lots of love.
If you are interested in knowing more about me, contact CBHR for the deets. In the meantime, I’m Hal, and I’m off to play!
