About Me

Well, boy, howdy, everyone! They call me George Strait, and while I might not sing as well as the country star I’m named after, as a basset hound you’d better believe I know how to howl. My foster mom even calls it “amazing.”

I’m a 5-year-old boy with a mischievous streak, but I’m trying to learn my house manners. Foster Mom calls me the “peacemaker,” because I’m so great with other dogs. I submit to the alpha dog in the house but basically just get along with everyone. When I’m with senior dogs, I just chill out, but I love to play if another dog wants a good romp.

I’m really good with the young-uns – OK, sometimes I snatch food out of their hands, but I get a hankerin’ for a snack once in a while. I came in as a stray, and I’m always in the mood for some groceries. One of my favorite things is to snuggle with humans big and small. My foster thinks I’ll be some lucky family’s dream dog.

Now, about that mischievous streak: Besides snatching food I can reach, I like to jump onto the kitchen table, and I have an affinity for chewing shoes. Foster Mom is working with me on those habits. I am an excellent escape artist, by my foster is teaching me to come when I’m called. I’m trying, but freedom is soooo tempting.

Obedience training is recommended and is always a good idea when you get a new houndie. It helps both owner and dog get to know each other’s expectations and needs.

My foster thinks maybe I was trained as a hunting dog. She’s pretty sure I can’t be trusted around chickens, rabbits and other critters I can chase, so maybe the farm life isn’t for me. I’m still working on that housetraining thing but am making progress, and I like using the doggie door.

I’m on hold right now while I get those nasty heartworms treated, but after that I should be ready to meet my forever family. If you’re looking for a guy who keeps the peace but also loves a good time, contact CBHR and tell them George Strait sent you. You’ll be happy you did.
