About Me
*Ernie has been adopted!*
Hi, there! Are you looking for a high-energy hound who will keep you on your toes and be constantly entertaining? Then check me out! My name is Ernie, and I’m a spirited – and somewhat mischievous – 9 1/2-year-old basset who loves to be active. I’m also a CBHR alum, but circumstances out of my control brought me back to this wonderful rescue, searching for my new chance at a happily ever after.
My favorite activities are walking on a leash and riding in the car. Oh, and I also like to bark at squirrels (I’m a retired hunting dog, I can’t help myself). I’m a sweet boy who likes having people around, so a home with very active retirees or someone who works from home would be ideal. Don’t worry – I’m not a clingy sort, I just like to know someone else is around.
My favorite snooze spot is the bed in the guest room. I won’t insist on bunking with you. I’m really good when my foster leaves the house, but I also have another dog to keep me company. Foster Dad isn’t sure how well I would do left by myself without another dog around, but so far I am well-behaved. I don’t chew unauthorized objects, and the only time I am in my crate is for dinner to prevent any potential for food theft by me or my foster sibling.
As I mentioned, I love me some walkies, and I do very well on a gentle-lead leash. You will be happy to know that I am fully housetrained and use the doggie door. (Who’s a good boy?) I like other dogs, but not cats. (Did I mention I’m a retired hunting dog, trained to chase other critters?) Sometimes I try to mark my territory in a new location but it doesn’t happen once I know it’s my home.
I had some major surgery and am feeling a lot better! I I will soon be ready to meet my forever family! Could it be you? Some things you need to know about me:
I take medication for a condition known as diabetes insipidus, which makes me drink too much water and have to pee a lot. It helps me, but I do need to be on it for the rest of my life. I also love to run, sun and play outside as often as possible, so I will need a fenced yard. An apaartment would cramp my style, so I would definitely be best for a family with a yard who loves to take me for walks.
If you think we might be MFEO (made for each other), give a shout to CBHR – better yet, use the contact information provided on this website – and let them know you’d like to know more about me, Ernie! I could be your new best friend! And be on the lookout, because as soon as the vet gives me the all-clear (soon), I will be available for adoption!
