About Me

Well, howdy, folks! I’m Ellie Mae, and don’t let my squinting fool you – I am one sweet girl. Although I’m blind and had to have my eyes removed, I haven’t let that get in the way of showing affection and interacting with my foster humans and other dogs.

Despite my deficit, I navigate pretty well around the house and yard, and I really love being outside in the sun. I also just adore riding in the car and going for walks – I told you I’m not letting being blind stop me from doing the things I love.

I’m about 7 years old, and I am happy as part of my pack. I’m playful and love my toys, but I’m also independent, social and very smart. And I am reliably housebroken. Sometimes I’m a little shy when meeting new people, but I warm up quickly with some patience and lovies.

I get along well with most everyone, and although Foster Mom hasn’t observed me around children, she thinks I’d be gentle with them, as long as they are polite to me.

My foster mom says I’m a little overweight (I call it “extra curvy”) and she’s helping me get my girlish figure back with some nutritious food. I also have a bit of arthritis, and because I can’t see where I’m going, I would probably do best in a house that doesn’t have many stairs. I do well on a ramp or with a step or two, though.

Pssst, I’ll tell you a secret: I’m a little spoiled. I like to sleep on my bed with the TV on to keep me company. (Gotta catch up on the next episode of “Ted Lasso.”)

I’m on medical hold right now while my eyes heal from surgery, but if you are interested in smart, sweet, resilient basset girl, contact CBHR and ask for me, Ellie Mae!
