About Me

Well, hi there! My name is Eleanor, and I am an active basset girl, about a year old or maybe younger. I love people and getting lots of pets and rubs. If I meet someone when I’m out on a walk, I want to run up and say hello right away. My foster parents are working to teach me leash manners so I don’t rush at folks – I’m learning that there is a more polite way to greet new people.

I am playful with other dogs, but my energy level might stress out an older, calmer dog. I have been intrigued by cats I’ve encountered, but I haven’t been tested yet around cats to see if I will behave when they are present. I do love to chase squirrels, though.

Being puppylike, I haven’t yet learned how to contain my boundless energy, but my fosters are working with me on that. I admit I am a bit of an escape artist – when you open the door, I want to run out. Proper training and consistent commands will be essential for my happily ever after.

My crate is my sanctuary. I willingly go in there and sleep through the night. My fosters have to wake me up in the morning! I also am fine when left alone in the crate if the people go out. I do sometimes whine for a few minutes when first put in my crate, but I settle down quickly.

I’m learning how to let the humans know when I need to go out, but I am also working through a medical condition that makes me have to pee more than usual.

Mischief is my middle name. I will sometimes tear up a toy because I play so hard, and I’ve been known to pick up a shoe now and then. But my fosters simply replace the shoe in my mouth with a toy, so I am picking up cues that I’m not supposed to play with shoes.

I eat separately from the other dog in the house to prevent any misunderstandings about whose dinner is whose.

My fosters are very patient with me, and guess what! They want to adopt me! That makes me so happy, but there are other hounds who still need a home. Some of them are not yet on the website, so please keep checking back. But we have a few hounds who have been waiting for their forever families for quite a while. Won’t you have a look at them?

All bassets just want someone to love them and to help them become the best version of themselves that they can be. If you contact CBHR, they can fill you in about all the good points, needs and quirks of my basset pals. Tell them you heard it from Eleanor!
