About Me
*Dougie has been adopted!*
Hi! I’m Dougie, and I have a sad story to tell. I was a happy boy with my former owner, but he passed away unexpectedly and his family reached out to CBHR to help me find a new forever family. I’m a senior basset, about 8 years old, and I sure do love people!
But my story is about to have a happy ending! I found a family that would like to adopt me as soon as I get my medical clearance.
I like to visit with the neighbors and their dog – the two of us play a lot. I do have some anxiety, but that’s understandable because of the trauma I went through when my human died. I whine and cry when my foster people leave the house. But my fosters are also working with me to reassure me that they will return.
I really love to go on long walks where I can get some exercise and smell all the interesting smells. Even though I have some separation anxiety, my fosters don’t crate me and say I don’t need to be in a crate because I’m a good boy. My foster family takes me with them when they can, and I really love that!
I’ve been working on a few quirks, like being a little aggressive if another dog is near any food I smell. But as I grow more comfortable in my surroundings, I am learning to be calmer. Generally, I get along OK with other dogs
I am also housetrained and let my foster mom know when I need to go out, so you won’t have to worry about that. Keep checking back to see if I move to the Happy Hounds section. I’m hopeful it will be soon!
In the meantime, look around and see if any of my fellow bassets might touch your heart. If so, CBHR and tell them Dougie gave you a good tip!
