About Me

*Dixie is now a Forever Foster. She will live out her years in the security of her foster mom’s home.*

Hi, y’all! My name’s Dixie, and I’m an almost 11-year-old girl who is very sweet and laid back. I’m not an Energizer Bunny like some of my fellow hounds – I’m a mature lady who enjoys my solitude and rest.

Don’t get me wrong – I am a friendly senior girl who adores belly rubs and all sorts of attention in general. I like hanging with the people and lounging near them on the sofa. I’m one of 12 bassets who came to CBHR after our owner could no longer care for us. As a former outdoor dog surrounded by other hounds, you can’t blame me for loving my alone time.

Sadly, it appears I have developed doggie dementia, so I am very dependent on my foster mom and my fellow basset housemates to keep an eye on me. (Just take a look at me with my friends Lady Bird (left) and Bo, whose back I’m resting on.) I would need a very special home, but I promise I would make up for my ailment with so much love.

That said, I do very well with other dogs, and even though I’m a senior citizen, I don’t have any observable mobility problems that my foster parents could see. I am not crated when they are gone and do very well in my special area of the house when they are away.

Even though I lived outdoors for a long time, I am now reliably housetrained and have become a very good houseguest.

I know lots of adopters are looking for young hounds, but trust me, we older dogs have lots of love to give. If you have room in your heart and home for a very chill girl who likes attention, let CBHR know you would like to learn more about me, Dixie!
