About Me

They call me Daisy Mae, and boy, was I living a sad life before the good folks at CBHR took me in. You may notice that I don’t look much like a basset hound. That’s because I’m actually a Treeing Walker Coonhound. Other rescue groups were full and CBHR decided that this 2-year-old girl deserves to find her happily ever after!

Here’s my story, short version: My original owner is in prison, and the person who “inherited” me treated me badly, kept me outside and called me “Stupid.” A nice lady rescued me from that situation, but she has several other dogs and couldn’t keep me too, so she reached out to CBHR. They said yes! Even though CBHR’s rescue is usually limited to basset hounds only, they found my personality and charm irresistible.

I’m living with my CBHR foster mom and some other houndies, and I am fitting right in. I even sleep at the foot of Foster Mom’s bed with the other dogs.

My long legs and sleek body give me the grace of a ballerina, and I will need a fenced yard and plenty of room to exercise those legs. My leash manners could use some work, though. I’m a dog that likes to pull and explore a lot. I also have some separation anxiety and am afraid of being crated, but Foster Mom says I really don’t need to be crated.

Other than that, I’m a great dog, very calm and easygoing. I haven’t shown any food aggression, and all of us are fed separately to avoid any possible problems. I am also housebroken, and I get along with people of all ages – although I haven’t had any interaction with babies and can be a little skittish at first around younger children. I’m a loving dog and quite a beauty, as you can see from my photos. If you think I’d make a good addition to your family, contact CBHR and ask for me, Daisy Mae Coonhound!
