About Me
*Copper crossed the Rainbow Bridge on November 20, 2024. He came to CBHR in 2021 as a senior hound and became a Forever Foster. He was able to live out his days in the care and love of his CBHR foster family. Run free, Copper!*
My name is Copper, and I’m a bit like the grumpy but lovable Oscar Madison of “The Odd Couple.” I’m a sweet, older guy who is calm and submissive around other dogs, but I get a little irritated if someone bothers me while I’m sleeping.
I’m a 15-year-old boy and came to CBHR with fellow basset Lily. We were together a long time, but Lily unexpectedly crossed the Rainbow Bridge in late February 2022, so now it’s just me. (If you happen to look at the photos of both of us together, that’s me on the left and Lily on the right.)
As an older dude, I find change a little difficult and need time to get used to a new situation, but I am not aggressive. Foster Mom says I am showing a lot of improvement and will adapt as I get more familiar with my new surroundings. She says I’m well-mannered and affectionate once I get used to a new person or new surroundings. It’s best to approach me slowly if you want to pet me, but I really do like those rubs. I get along with my foster family’s young grandchildren, but as with most dogs, I should be watched around children.
I like to sleep on my dog bed and my mobility is pretty good for an older guy. I also like to play, but as a senior dog, I walk with a little wobble sometimes. I have a good appetite, and you don’t have to worry about me jumping on the furniture – I’m a low-rider dog and prefer the floor.
I do not like nail trims, and I do not like collars placed over my head. I do fine if you just buckle it around my neck. At our first foster home, Lilly and I hung out with the other dogs in a room separated from the rest of the house by a baby gate, and we were very good at staying put.
