About Me

Greetings! Cooper Here – a 7 1/2-year-old basset  – with my latest update. I’m here to tell you that I sure would love to meet my forever family! I really love being around people and will try to get your attention with a “love growl” if you don’t respond to me right way.

My foster dad describes me as a “normal dog with a few idiosyncrasies.” But don’t let that deter you. He’s been working with me to channel my normal communication method – my love growls – with barking when I need attention or food, and whining if I need to go out.

I thought I had found my forever home, but we just didn’t fit together. I’d really like to find a family to love me. Won’t you take a look at my bio and see if you have a place in your heart and home for a guy like me?

I will hop up on the sofa, roll over and ask for a belly rub. I am very smart, and I have adjusted well to my current foster family. One of my favorite activities is sitting in the kitchen while the people cook.

I can be easily startled. I’m also particular about where I am touched, especially while I am being groomed, and I don’t like to be picked up with both hands. A little sedation can help me tolerate the grooming regimen.

I will need a forever family with no young children and no other pets – especially cats – and people who understand my quirks. I might be OK with calm, older children who are respectful of how best to communicate with me. You see, I don’t like negative corrections or raised voices, and I don’t like high-stress situations. But thanks to my foster dad’s but loving care, I have really become a great dog.

I get along great with adults, and I really enjoy greeting strangers and delivery drivers. Foster Dad  thinks I will make a good dog for a patient, loving and consistent family. I will need someone who understands my quirks and can work with me using positive reinforcement. Calm, quiet voices make me happy. I would love a low-stress, chill environment without too many surprises.

I follow commands to sit and come, although I prefer just rolling over to get my belly rubbed. I love my toys, and I have fun playing keep-away with people.

I also  love walks, and I am generally very good on the leash, although I don’t like it when you pull on my harness to redirect me. Foster Dad usually just gently nudges me along. I get along well in crowds and tend to ignore other dogs but gravitate toward people.

Car rides are my favorite! But a ramp would be nice to help me get in the car easily, since I don’t like to be picked up.

I am fully housebroken and I am at a healthy weight – although you shouldn’t leave food on the counter, because I can reach it and I do love my groceries. In general, when I get ahold of something I’m not supposed to have, my foster dad trades me for something I like even better.

Like I said earlier, I am making good progress. I will need the right family, but I know there is someone out there who can meet me where I am and help me be the bestest boy I can be.

In return, I promise to love you and let you rub my belly (oh, pleeez rub my belly)! If you have a special place in your heart for a guy like me, contact CBHR and tell them Cooper sent you! They can give you all the information you need to see if we are a good fit.

This is Cooper, signing out for now! Keep checking back on me, and reach out if you’d like to know more about me!
