Adoption Agreement Terms
Adopting person(s) agrees that the Rescue Basset will be a house pet and will receive all the care and attention necessary to ensure its health and well being. Adopting Person(s) shall provide adequate food, fresh water, indoor shelter, exercise, veterinary care and yearly inoculations as recommended by attending veterinarian, and shall abide by all state and local laws governing dogs. Adopting person(s) shall provide the Rescue Basset with year-round (12 month) heartworm preventative and provide the Rescue Basset with a yearly heartworm test.
Adopting Person(s) will not permit the basset to run free, off leash, or participate in any other behavior that results in the basset being out of immediate control of the owner/handler. When outside, the basset will never be staked or chained out unattended.
Prior to this adoption, the Adopting Person(s) will provide fencing around any swimming pool to prevent the basset’s entering into the pool area.
Adopting Person(s) will provide adequate indoor sleeping quarters. Bassets are not to be left outside for unreasonable extended periods of time or overnight.
Adopting Person(s) will not transport the basset in an open pickup truck bed, boat, or in any other manner where the basset may fall off of or from and the possibility of injury could occur.
Adopting Person(s) agrees that the basset will, at all times, wear a collar with current rabies tag and Carolina Basset Hound Rescue ID tag.
Adopting Person(s) agree to contact CBHR IMMEDIATELY if the Rescue Basset becomes lost or is stolen.
Adopting Person(s) will notify CBHR at least one week prior to any address change.
Adopting Person(s) will keep the Rescue Basset for so long as it shall live and will not transfer ownership to any other person(s). The Rescue Basset may not be transferred to any other person or organization for any reason.
If custody of the Rescue Basset must be relinquished, Adopting Person(s) agrees to notify CBHR IMMEDIATELY to arrange for its return to CBHR.
The Adopting Person(s) takes the Rescue Basset as is, with all its defects, either observable or unobservable, and assumes full risk for the basset from the date of signing this agreement. Though care is given to assess physical condition and temperament of each basset hound that is accepted into Carolina Basset Hound Rescue, and every possible effort is made to provide a Rescue Basset which is compatible with the Adopter’s home, no warranty is made as to the physical condition or temperament of this Rescue Basset.
CBHR reserves the right to remove immediately and reclaim the Adopted Basset Hound(s) from the Adoptive Person(s) home if any of the above conditions are violated in any way or it is found that the Adopted Basset Hound(s) is being abused, neglected, or mistreated.
If the Rescue Basset has been treated for heartworms, it may test positive for heartworms for up to a year.
As of the date of this agreement, the Adopting Person(s) assumes responsibility for the basset’s actions and shall hold Carolina Basset Hound Rescue and its individual members FREE from all claims for personal injury to others, and/or property damage associated with this adoption.
