About Me
Well, hello there! My name is Julian, and I’m an active young basset boy. I’m almost 2 years old, but I have a lot of puppy traits still in me. I am settling in well with my fosters, and I enjoy showing my appreciation for taking me in by covering them in slobbery kisses.
One of my favorite things is taking long walks – I can keep up with the people if they decide to walk 2 or 3 miles. I even love a good run. I pull a bit, but I am learning my leash manners. Here’s a helpful tip: Harnesses are great for walking us basset hounds, because about two-thirds of our body weight is up front.
I am making myself at home with my fosters, and they are learning what I need to be my best basset self. I am getting good at coming when called, and I associate treats with going out to do my business and then coming right back inside. I love, love, love my food and tend to eat very fast. Foster Mom feeds me three times a day so I don’t gobble too much at once. She is also working on making me understand that I won’t miss any meals, and on my resource guarding.
I adore being close to my people – I have to keep them from wandering away, you know. Plus, when I’m close to them I know I am going to get plenty of love. Although I still need to learn some things to improve my house manners, I am a very good boy when left alone in the house. I am not destructive and behave politely.
I enjoy meeting other people, but I am not yet comfortable with all dogs. I am friendly with some, but with others, I can be aggressive. I probably shouldn’t visit a dog park or places where people and their dogs meet up until I become better socialized.
Now, I have to brag a little: I am a smart boy, and I am learning basic commands very quickly. When it’s hot, there’s nothing I enjoy more than a cool dip in the pool. (Have a look at my photo gallery to see what I mean.)
Even though I have some things to learn, I just know there is a forever family out there for me. Could it be you? I would love an active family who can take me for lots of walks and adventures where I can smell all the smells and explore.
If you think we might be BFFs, contact CBHR and tell them you want all the details on me, Julian! And while you’re here, have a look at some of the other hounds on this page. At CBHR, we believe the right family is out there for every basset. Julian out!
