About Me

Howdy, pardners! They call me Oakley – pleased to meet ya. I’m a 10-year-old buckaroo with a whole lot of energy for a guy my age. I have kind of a sad tale to tell, but it’s got a happy ending.

One of my owners passed, and the other was facing surgery and a long recovery, so a kind relative told CBHR about me. So now here I am, living the life in my new foster home, where I am receiving three squares – OK, not really becuase I’d be pretty pudgy if that were the case; I’m on a senior diet, because I could stand to lose a few pounds to get down to my ideal weight – and a bundle of love.

I’m housetrained and am good when I am left out of my crate. My foster is working with me to get me to see the crate as my safe space, though. I eat there but want out right away afterward. There’s too much going on in the rest of the house not to be right in the middle of it!

I’ve already been to an event where I got to meet lots of people. I was a little nervous and barked a lot, but I’m sure I’ll get used to all those pets and loves once I am more acclimated to my new surroundings. I love walks and am good on my leash, but we basset hounds just have to investigate every smell, even if it means darting in a different direction than we are going.

I’m a fun-loving boy, but not when it comes to seeing the vet for my ear infection. I also hate getting my nails done, so they muzzle me and give me a little gabapentin to calm me down. I may relax a little once I get used to it and when my ears are better.

One of my favorite things is riding in the car – I jump in all by myself and I’m ready to roll!

I do have separation anxiety because I just love being near the people, so it would be great to find a patient family who can work with me and maybe a trainer to  build my confidence and my comfort level with alone time.

If you are interested in learning more about an older fella with a lot of life left to savor, contact CBHR and tell them you think Oakley might be just the hound to add joy to your life.

Pardon me, but I need to ride into the sunset for some vittles. This is Oakley, bidding you happy trails!
