About Me
Just call me a social butterfly. My name is Barley, and I’m a perky 18-month-old basset who loves hanging out with the people. Crowds aren’t a problem – I love the attention! And just look at me! I’m a handsome guy, too!
I came to CBHR because my I have separation anxiety and my former owner felt bad that he couldn’t stay home all day or take me along to work. But I’m with my CBHR foster family now, and they have a lot of experience working with bassets who have anxiety issues. CBHR is really good about helping us bring out our best basset selves.
I am a young boy, but I can sense when I need to approach the smaller humans gently. I did great with my fosters’ 7-month-old grandchild, as well as the older, more rambunctious kiddos. I also like to play with other dogs, but I can get overwhelmed with a large pack of them, so my fosters think I would do best in a home with maybe one other dog at most.
Some of my favorite activities are fetching, playing with toys and, especially, cuddling with the people. I really know how to chill! I just want to be near you at all times. Foster Mom says I’m super sweet. I sleep in my foster’s bedroom on the floor, which makes me feel safe.
She is working with me to slowly address my separation anxiety, so she hasn’t introduced me to the crate yet. And I’m confident that with a lot of TLC, I can overcome my anxiety. I’m mostly housetrained but wasn’t neutered when I came to CBHR, so I’ve marked a few times. That may change once I’m neutered, along with some gentle redirection from my foster.
I don’t like having my nails trimmed and can get a little snappy, but my fosters are working with me on that, too.
I can’t wait to meet my forever family once I’m cleared for adoption. Foster Mom says she thinks I’ll do well with any family who adopts me. If you are interested in learning more about me – and why wouldn’t you be? – please contact CBHR.
Just let them know you saw that handsome boy Barley and want to see if we are a good fit!
