About Me

*Dudley crossed the Rainbow Bridge on July 14, 2024 while in CBHR’s care. Run free, Dudley!*

Hi there, y’all! They call me Dudley, and I’m an almost-9-year-old basset boy looking for my new forever home. Ya see, my former owner is a veteran who could no longer take care of me because of health problems due to aging and war injuries. He adopted me from CBHR a few years ago, and he wanted the best for me, so here I am.

It’s taken me a little while to adust to the change, but I am really starting to come out of my shell. I was scared and confused at first, but now that I have gotten used to a new routine, I’m feeling more like my old self. I have made a good friend in one of my fellow foster dogs. We love to romp in the backyard.

My new foster family is helping by giving me stability and consistency, which has eased my anxiety. It’s not easy making so many changes at once. I even eat out of the same bowl as one of my canine foster siblings and I don’t show any food aggression – we share.

I even have gotten a little silly. I love to lie on the floor on my back, just in case a hooman might want to stop and rub my belly. (A basset can’t have too many belly rubs.)

I do love the sound of my own voice, so be prepared for some barking. I walk well on a leash, although being a hound, I have to stop and smell all the smells as I amble.

I also don’t like being left alone, so my foster mom thinks I would thrive best in a home where people are home most of the time or at least have another dog I can pal around with. I wouldn’t do well in a home where people work out of the house for a long period of time or have no other pet.

Good news! I am housetrained. I also have some medical issues that may need addressing before I’m ready for adoption, but I will get there. I get a little fidgety in the car at first, but then I settle down. I walk well on a leash. And I am good with adults and older children; my fosters haven’t observed me around younger kids, but I’m a pretty gentle boy.

I’m hoping to be ready to meet my new forever family soon, so keep checking in on my progress. And if you think I might be the kind of guy who could make your household complete, contact CBHR and ask about Dudley. I’ll be right here!
