About Me

*Rhett has been adopted!*

Greetings, all! My name is Rhett, and I am doing my best to live the life of a Southern gentleman, even though I was a work in progress when I came to CBHR. I’m 5 years old and I came to this wonderful rescue group after being picked up as a stray.

Now that I’ve had some time to adjust, my true personality is coming out. My foster mom says I’m an affectionate, funny, incredible hound with lots of potential for the right forever family.

She says I am doing great – I even went to work with her the other day!

My initial hesitation has eased and I am becoming very comfortable in my cozy foster home. I feel very safe here, and that has helped with my fearfulness.

My fur has been filling in – I was in rough shape when I first got to CBHR – and I am gaining a little weight.

I love people and am a great companion, although I have limited experience with children. My foster family has helped me practice the things I need to learn to be an excellent home companion.

I really love to cuddle in people’s laps, and I don’t like it when the people leave. I get anxious and bark, but my non-alpha foster brother keeps me company and that settles me down. I don’t like to be crated, though.

My foster people say I will make a wonderful dog for someone, preferably a family where the people are home a lot. I am fully housetrained and sleep through the night like a champ. My favorite activity is hanging out calmly near the people.

My favorite spot is a cushy chaise lounge in my fosters’ bedroom – I told you I’m practicing to become the perfect Southern gentleman.

Foster mom feeds me in a special bowl that slows down my eating because when I first came to CBHR I would scarf down my dinner and then try to eat the other dogs’ food. I had a little resource guarding issue, but Foster Mom has not noticed any of that behavior since she changed my feeding routine.

I’m not aggressive, and I get along OK with other dogs. But my foster warns that I shouldn’t be around alpha dogs since I growl at them. I also try to chase cats.

My ideal family will stick to a routine and be patient and consistent in my training. CBHR saw something in me, and I’m sure my furever family is just waiting for a guy like me.

If you would like to learn more about me, contact CBHR and ask for Rhett!
