About Me
I am Bernice! A lady recently found me as a stray, helped me find my way to the CBHR, and now to a fantastic foster home.
I suffer from glaucoma and have been blind for quite some time. I need to gain a few pounds, but a steady diet and my good appetite are doing wonders.
My foster mom describes me as an “old, sweet, obedient soul” and thinks I am uniquely special. My name, Bernice, seems to fit her description of me as a pure and kind older girl. I have adapted very well to my blindness by using my other senses, and honestly it just adds to my sweetness. I use my nose like a cane to look for obstacles and find my way around. I listen extremely well, understand commands, and do exactly as requested. Things like “sit” and “stay” come very naturally to me. I like being around people and love to be part of whatever is going on around me. I also comfortable and trusting by just sitting alone or in a crate. That said, I am always eager to sit on the couch with my foster family or their other dogs. I am fully housebroken, love to ride, and enjoy walks on a leash.
In so many ways I am a perfect, loving basset who has some things that make me exceptional at giving and receiving unconditional love. It’s as if my handicap is part of all that. I just want a place to share all I have to give.
