Fly high pain free, sweet Bunny!
You have to automatically be in love with a basset named Bunny. That’s what the CBHR folks have done and it I am another example of how these stories begin. I have been in CBHR foster care for about 3 months ever since my owner died. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all grins and giggles because I had several medical problems, was significantly underweight, and was just generally in very bad shape. I was kind of a medical “train wreck.”
Since then, there have been a lot of trips to the vet to see exactly what is wrong and how to treat me. As it turns out one of the major problems is that I have malignant belly tumor that has spread. It is causing a lot of my problems and makes my long-term future a bit less certain. For now, it’s kind of “wait and see”, and focus on making me comfortable and feel better. Fortunately, I am in the very best of foster homes with someone who knows bassets like the back of her hand. As a result, things are beginning to look brighter and I am having some better days.
I am now eating 3-4 meals per day and have gained 5 lbs.! That is really good news because a couple of vets didn’t think I would be able to gain weight. I have good days when I want to go for a walk and gallop in the house to get to the kitchen faster… and some not so good days when I need to sleep a lot. I still have symptoms of other things, both from the problems themselves and the treatment to take care of them. My foster mom is realistic that my long-term recovery and outcome are limited by my age and general health; BUT she is determined to give me every opportunity for a good quality of life. Through it all I am very sweet to every human I meet, and very appreciative for the love and care. That is life well-lived regardless of the circumstances.
