RALEIGH AREA VOLUNTEERS PICNIC SOCIAL Saturday, June 1, 2013, 5-9pm
There we'll be! Just clearing Memorial Day weekend and looking at the long road ahead to July 4th Holiday weekend. Here is a fuel stop to top off your social tank and get you a a week closer. The CBHR RALEIGH AREA PICNIC SOCIAL will be held at Jeff Miller and Jill Fuller's house at 107 Halpen Drive, Cary, NC on Saturday, June 1, 5-9pm. This is our opportunity to put faces with names, get to know your local volunteers in a relaxed setting, network and simply relax while all food items and mixers are provided by your host and hostess. Bring your own booze/beer/wine of your choice. Dress code is relaxed shoes, shorts and a shirt. Pretty demanding, huh? There may even be a leadership team member in attendance from out of town. Ever want to meet the disembodied voice of...say the Foster Director, the Adoption Director, Medical Director, Web Store Manager or Web Master. This might be your opportunity. Please leave the bassies and kids at home. They should be just fine. This is adult volunteers only.

We Need A Few Basset Bucks!
As most of you know Spring and Summer are our two busy times of the year. Three weeks ago CBHR had a whirlwind of a week with the arrival of twelve bassets and one not-a-basset in one week. In the weeks since, bassets have continued to pour in, including a handful of returns. The continued arrival of homeless bassets coupled with many of our current bassets needing significant healthcare has left us very, very tight on funds. We hope to not have to close our doors to needy hounds in the next few weeks, but the reality is, if we cannot raise enough money to cover our monthly expenses we may be forced to close intake for a period. Our veterinary costs average almost $6000 per month. The treatment of heartworm disease accounts for a large amount of our expenses, not to mention routine vaccines, injuries from the shelter, glaucoma, Cushings' disease and more. We never know what diseases or illnesses our bassets will have coming from the shelter. We spring to action to get bassets out of the shelter as soon as we get notified of them. LIke you, we want to help all the ones you bring to our attention. Now we need you to help us continue to help them!
